Elon Musk's favorite supposed data expert, who he's retweeted at least a dozen times, claims she can only process 60,000 rows of data before her "hard drive overheats".

Perhaps someone should rescue her from where she's apparently stuck twenty years in the past, which is the only possible explanation for those hardware limitations and the apparent lack of access to cloud compute.

Unless, of course, she's just completely making shit up.

@molly0xfff 🙂 20 years ago brings me to 2005 where my trusty few-years-old single core 600MHz sun workstation would run *grep* over 60k lines in a text file in a few secs without anything overheating.

@cubeos

Indeed, I think forty years is the right timeframe here
60k rows was a lot in 1985

@cubeos @molly0xfff 20 years ago brings me to a web app I made using the Hipparcos star catalog (120k rows, so twice what this DOGE fucknugget is whining about). I plunked it into a generic MySQL database and wrote some unbelievably gnarly SQL to do 3D position and velocity calculations for all 120k stars on *each* web request.

The app plus database ran just fine on my off-the-shelf 2005-era laptop without a whimper. It ran fine even when I wrote a script to hit the web app hundreds of times in short order to generate frames I could assemble into an animation.
