2+ years in on Mastodon and I've passed 2/3 of the peak follow count I had on :birdsite:, and have way more engagement/reach.

@dalias great number :} Only thing which worries me a bit, is the "quality" measure (kind of). How many of those people are staying?

@KasTasMykolas That would be interesting to try to measure (clicking thru each profile, looking for recent activity) but I think the reach/engagement speaks for itself. It also suggests most :birdsite: followers were abandoned accounts or bots.

@dalias well, in the end it's all about the feeling... does it fulfill the social needs? And takeaways from these social interactions :)

As a loyal follower of yours, I'm more than happy :} Also, various more widely adopted or a bit niche communities have formed and do feel staying strong.

And the same goes for generic social circles. Both, nationality/language and topic based.

@KasTasMykolas Even though I don't have specific goals in this area, I like to think about it from a standpoint of whether it's meeting not just social needs but also ones in areas of professional development, mutual aid, disseminating information, enabling activism, etc. So this is kinda the lens thru which I'm looking at things we might call reach/engagement and which some folks deride as self-promo, :birdsite:-brain, etc.
