I'm so tired of all the beefing, so let me say something that can unite all of us, except bad people with no taste

react sucks

@danilo Just wait until you spend a few years working with Angular every day....

@danilo ok for someone who has avoided JavaScript for along time. What should I learn/use next time want to build an app?

@danilo I will make note.

FWIW Any need is theoretical for now.

@mlevison @danilo The actual JavaScript language and standard library rather than anybody's awful 50MB framework obscuring it? 😁

@mlevison @danilo In particular, the dom, browser interactivity primitives, etc. are already an excellent model for a dynamic/interactive document/application. Creating some kludgy worse version of all that in JavaScript and adding extra layers to convert it to dom (or worse, canvas rendering) is a losing proposition in every possible way.

@hn3000 what I love about this vanilla js website is how its anemic design instantly reveals the value of its advice, and the paltry leverage of standalone JS generally

@mlevison

@danilo Yeah, sorry, not looking for an argument -- but I do like the minimalism and don't find it anemic. (And I'd love to know what you miss on the site that is basically an elaborate joke mimicking other frameworks' sites. But hey.)

Also, it's been up for a while now -- and didn't need updates because Vanilla JS is more backwards compatible than those other options that need to be re-architected every couple years because the framework changed or has been discontinued.

@danilo rewrite React in Rust!

(While those two camps hash it out I can continue to code in peace)

@danilo genuinely loving that my constitutional anti-Facebook bias is finally now even true for technology choices. Really thankful to have never bothered to even run a hello world of that nonsense.

BTW have you seen this yet? It’s just perfectly :chef-kiss:
