Rarely have I nodded this much when reading an analysis of the systematic failure of the tech industry and our "market system" as a whole.
The unending need to cut cost (at all cost) to improve "metrics" that have nothing to do with creating sustainable, quality results... Yeah, it's bleak. It's terrifying.

Companies making tens of billions a quarter, paying hundreds of millions to their execs, laying of thousand to push up their stock price.
Welcome to hell. You should get used to this.
@dirkhh I would rather try find a way out of this hell ...
@larsmb
Me, too.
But I have a mortgage to pay and kids to put through college...
@dirkhh Yes, even without the kids ... There must be some hope somewhere, what with all the EU funding for FLOSS
... which is getting cut for AI, which is non-reproducible by design. Sigh. Ah well.
@larsmb
But see, open source funding translates into middle class jobs in Europe.
AI funding translates into billions for billionaires and the destruction of the environment through energy waste.
The choice is obvious.

AI !!!
@dirkhh I think you've become as jaded as I If only you were wrong.
@dirkhh damn. That's a good (though depressing) post. It's a damn shame what this industry has become.
@jzb
And we all can cite dozens more example without even having to think hard.
I mean... I'm living through one of these cost cutting for the sake of you-know-who right now, as we speak.
And pointing this out likely increases the risk that I will be "affected by it".
