Thinking about community's adoption of new tech or ways of working ...

Which of these do you think most matches reality? (rather than wishes or hype or "how we wish to be seen")

On my cynical days, I fear there is a tendency for the HPC community to desire to be seen as early adopters or drivers of new tech or ways of working but actually very slow to adopt any change in production use.

On my positive days, I am excited by this community's continual push to seek out and evaluate new ideas (albeit even in my positive days I accept the the rate of adoption into production use is slower than the hype).

@hpcnotes given the timescale of most HPC pre cloud, I think a little tendency to long termism is to be expected, but I think that's going to be overtaken by a different class of HPC, with a lot of cloud, that's done by different people in different ways and maybe the trad HPC community will make that shift and maybe it won't (mainframe is still a very big and profitable niche, for how that can go)
