OK. Cool. Glad to hear it.

I never received any alert about this person being missing.

I’m sure the plan with these public safety alerts is well-meaning, but the execution simply is not cutting it. Not the first time I’ve received an urgent alert like this containing utterly non-actionable non-information.

Next time you hear somebody blowing off communication studies or writing courses, well…

@inthehands

My phone disappears them (I assume to /dev/null) as soon as you dismiss the notification, which is reflexive at this point due to the blaring warning.

So good to know something is up... wish I knew what it was though...

@inthehands One can suppose that the scope of the search extended through informal channels enough that it made sense to blast a found message to everyone nearby even if they weren’t involved in the search.

@dekk I am impressed that you managed to come with an explanation this charitable.

@inthehands we once had escaped horses that were eventually secured and everyone who assisted in the effort knew order had been restored except the local sheriff who had been dispatched after the matter was resolved. Communicating that a crisis is over can be tricky.

Horrid things ...
Possible that your phone was using a cell site which didn't carry the original warning and then to one that did when the follow-up was sent.

@zl2tod
It’s a decent theory: I was at home, where I have solid wifi but spotty cell.
