Agreed, and if we •are• considering fines for these “injuring the commons” sorts of offenses:
Fines should be exponential, e.g. $50 first offense, $250 second offense, then $1250, then $6250…and cap it only for lower incomes. People often remark that if the only penalty is a fine, it’s only a law for the poor — but nobody can escape exponential growth.
@inthehands @futurebird @acdha In Switzerland some fines are tied to your income, and you are fined x "daily rates". So a rich person will end up paying more than a poor one.
