Hot take: If you're on an Apple platform, just use Safari as your browser. It's actively maintained, leads on privacy and security, doesn't try to break your ad blocker, and does not try to sell you VPN every time it updates.

The best browser for the average user 👍🏻

Also hot take: a best browser for power users too.

My primary. In fact, almost my only — except I use Chrome if and only if I have to be logged in to Google, so their little portrait of me is somewhat sandboxed.

@inthehands @sindarina I also prefer Safari, but power users' requirements are not homogenous and they may need particular bleeding edge features, plugins, etc.

@nicklockwood @sindarina Indeed, was careful to say “a” and not “the” in my post above

@inthehands @nicklockwood Yeah, I have Safari as my primary, along with Safari Technology Preview for occasional testing, plus Firefox for checking when I see something odd in Safari, and a number of things that benefit from the Firefox Multi-Account Containers feature, like Youtube.

Haven't had anything Chrome or Chromium installed for ages, works a treat 🙂

@sindarina
My job (well, one of them anyway) heavily requires GSuite, and I figure isolating that in Chrome solves both compatibility and privacy problems in one fell swoop. Always tempted to uninstall the darn thing though: nixing its background demons is an ongoing battle!

@inthehands @sindarina
Same here. One of my workplaces is fully enmeshed in the GSuite. I use Vivaldi for that site. It’s Chromium-based and seems to render pages and be accepted by sites as though it were Chrome, but it doesn’t install the Google background demons.
