My pet peeve: people adding more and more and more content in the hope of eventually having a point. Has exactly the same problem as adding more and more code in the hope of eventually having no bugs.
I •want• to know what you think is important. I don’t need a meandering firehose; I have internet access already. If I’m listening to you, then your focus, your sense of where the heart of the matter sits, is likely •why• I’m listening.
@inthehands I feel like we need to condense Clemmin's famous phrase down to a koan or more clearly universal phrasing, since it applies so much.
'I am sorry about the length of this letter. If I had more time I would have written you a shorter one.'
@Oggie I’ve always loved that quote! I don’t know who Clemmin is…? The earliest attestation is Pascal, but it’s unclear whether he’s the originator:

@inthehands Sorry, Mark Twain, and apparently I butchered it-
'I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead'
( Samuel Clemens, I misspelled his last name too, on a roll today).
Edit- I am terrible on the phone. Meant to say that's who I have always seen it attributed to, but as your link makes it clear, kind of a who knows.
@inthehands As Mark Twain (supposedly) said, “I apologize for such a long letter - I didn't have time to write a short one.”
