Again with this Solnit essay:

❝[P]eople assume you can’t be hopeful and heartbroken at the same time, and of course you can. In times when everything is fine hope is unnecessary. Hope is not happiness or confidence or inner peace; it’s a commitment to search for possibilities.❞

❝I respect despair as an emotion, but not as an analysis.…Feelings deserve full respect as feelings, but all they inform you about is you.❞

The Guardian · We can’t afford to be climate doomersBy Rebecca Solnit

I am interested right now in possibilities, actions •I• and •we• can take:

- to protect the trans, queer, Black, and brown people who will be vulnerable and in the crosshairs,

- to gird up our systems of mutual support while we are under siege,

- to counter, to slow, and to kneecap an unhinged Trump administration,

- to work around a broken US government to continue to fight climate change, establish abortion access safe havens, etc, and

- to uproot rampant fascist thinking.

Gotta be honest, I’m really not digging all the posts about how this catastrophe proves people’s own pet political theories correct. I realize chucking rocks at the loser is part of the grieving process, but…I’m just not feeling it, sorry. The fact is that Harris ran a really strong campaign, and she would have been a great president.

The US is just too sexist and racist for that to matter.

It’s an abdication of responsibility to put the job of fixing all that on one campaign or party.

For now, I’m a lot more interested in what actions we’re all going to take in the coming days and years. This is on us; we’ve got to step up. Somehow.

I’m feeling lost right now about what more I could have done, about what more I can do. I just don’t know.

I am, however, as Solnit wrote, making a commitment to search for possibilities. Please help me search. I want to be in this alongside all of you who also care.
