I think some people are wondering why more Americans aren't rising up to protest. (edit: people actually are protesting as @inthehands pointed out) I wonder if part of it is a lack of community. It is hard to take action by yourself. Also, trying to manage daily life without community is exhausting.

On the positive side, this is an opportunity for the resistance. If we can build community, then protesting will be something people want to do. And when we overcome this regime, then we will be ready to build what comes next.

I see the tesla takedown protests as opportunities to build this kind of community.

I really agree about the protests as a way to build community and capacity for action — and about being excellent for that purpose!

A quibble: people •are• rising up to protest. I’ve read (but don’t have the link, sorry) research that found are approximately twice the rate now of the comparable point in the 1st Trump term. They just aren’t receiving similar coverage. Perhaps this is because they are smaller but more numerous, instead of single large banner events like the Women’s March? Regardless, people are definitely rising up.

@inthehands thanks for your comment about people protesting, I agree. I edited my post to acknowledge that. I want the people who are out there protesting every week to be seen.

I also want to acknowledge that these ideas about community are not original to me. But I wanted to write about it as a way to make sense of it.

It’s great to say important and true things, even if they aren’t original!
