I think the one thing I am not happy concerning NixOS is the lack of a GUI VPN (not Flatpak).
I, know how to use the terminal, but I can repeat how to use it until I am blue in the face, and pass out, but that knowledge and wisdom will wash over the other person who needs it. They'll hear me, but forget the moment I walk out of the room. If it is not graphical, they're not learning it.

@Linux ?? Is it a NixOS's issue ??
@Pol@mathstodon.xyz Yes and No.
I view the fact that someone took the time to add iVPN to their repo, but did not include the GUI, as technically their issue. Great, that it is there (absolutely), but why only half of the package?!
@marcus@hachyderm.io @Pol@mathstodon.xyz Wonderful. Now I just need to wait for that to make it into the repos and I will be able to install NixOS on another PC.

@Linux @marcus yes, follow the progress here: https://nixpkgs-tracker.ocfox.me/?pr=388384
@Pol@mathstodon.xyz @marcus@hachyderm.io It is making progress. I can for wait for a bit.
On my end, I can use the terminal. It is the other PC, for someone else, that will be stuck waiting for now.
@zstg @marcus @Linux is it a question? Because nothing has changed here: https://nixpkgs-tracker.ocfox.me/?pr=388384
@zstg@fedia.social @Pol@mathstodon.xyz @marcus@hachyderm.io It is not yet listed. Looking for ivpn-ui (as noted in the previous post)
@zstg@fedia.social @Pol@mathstodon.xyz @marcus@hachyderm.io It is in the unstable-small channle. I do not understand NixOs release cycle, so I do not understand the difference from unstable and unstable-small, or when it will make it to the stable branch https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/337129
@Linux @marcus @zstg It will be available when all the ticks will be green in https://nixpkgs-tracker.ocfox.me/?pr=388384
You'll find documentation on the release cycle on https://wiki.nixos.org/wiki/Channel_branches

The hydra job linked in the pr tracker's nixos-unstable section seems to have most of the subtasks complete, so I'd expect it'll be in the unstable channel soon:tm:
I typically see maybe a day or 2 until the changes propagate from this point to nixos-unstable
@squeakybeaver@blahaj.zone @zstg@fedia.social @Pol@mathstodon.xyz @marcus@hachyderm.io So it goes from unstable-small, then to unstable, and finally to stable? Is that how it works?
How long before it goes to stable?
it won't ever reach current stable probably? (24.11), I guess it will be part of the 25.05 release. I've long petioned for unstable to be renamed rolling, it's the only channel I use.
@marcus@hachyderm.io @Pol@mathstodon.xyz @squeakybeaver@blahaj.zone @zstg@fedia.social Interesting. I am going to read up on how to upgrade from 24.11 to the rolling release.
