Hard but fair:

If you work for the Harris Walz campaign, you should quit now. It's not worth it. Right now, someone in the Harris Walz campaign is getting ready to write (another) "tell-all" article of the form:

* Harris demands an impossibly high standard
* She frequently criticizes people in public, like on group chats
* She expects unsustainable work hours
* She changes plans frequently, causing rework

I'm not saying that these claims are untrue! They're very true! So quit. Seriously.

1/N

I know someone is working on (another) one of these articles, because *every* successful woman that doesn't have any real glaring flaws, gets the treatment of one of these articles.

Men demanding high standards, pushing teams to the limit, having a culture of direct feedback, and not taking enough time for pleasantries, or sugar coating, like Steve Jobs, are glorified. But women aren't allowed to do that. Especially not Black women.

2/N

And I don't think people realize what it takes to elect a Black woman as president of the US. Even against a clear fascist incompetent grifter, who promises to be a dictator on day one.

Being part of the inner team of the Harris campaign is not a normal job. The next 80 days will not be sustainable by any definition. I'm not being facetious. I am being 100% serious.

Taking the "public" criticism for 80 days to accomplish something historic is worth it for some, not worth it for others.

mekka okereke :verified:

Be honest with yourself about if this campaign is really where you want to be. The financial pay-off from the next 80 days is not worth it. You will not create generational wealth for what you will go through over the next 80 days. You will do your best work, only to be told how it could have been better.

The only pay off, is you help get your candidate elected.

But don't endure those unpleasantries just to write that article we're all expecting. Because we will read it, and not care. 🤷🏿‍♂️

@mekkaokereke so basically.

I MISSED THE PUNCHLINE AND NOW I AM ONE.

Seems like I missed the sarcasm tag. My bad on that.

WAS:
"Don't work to get the woman elected, it's not worth your time."

But if she's not elected, the USA goes to shit.

So many words to hide the true intent.

@root

🤦🏿‍♂️You don't know enough Black people in leadership to understand my thread.

If you've never worked for a Black person who's been the "First Black person to do [X]," then get all the way out of my mentions.

I've been that 1st Black person. On many levels. I know what it takes. I sit on company boards of women CEOs, not to give them advice (they don't need it), but to defend them from this inevitable insurrection and sabotage. It always comes.

@mekkaokereke as replied elsewhere *and* per my edited reply as well:

I can recognize when I fuck up, and this is very much an instance where I fucked all the way up and didn't understand.

250% my bad (if not more).

@root @mekkaokereke

"Don't show up to back stab the woman. Show up to get her elected. Don't complain if that's hard. Don't write a tell-all article about how hard done by you feel halfway through. If you're just there for the mid-point back-stabbing, GTFO."

HTH. Sigh. (I couldn't resist re-explaining. It's a weakness, I admit it.)

@abhayakara @mekkaokereke i will fully admit to missing the proper point. Edited my initial reply as such.

@root @mekkaokereke He got me too, though maybe differently. I thought it was sarcasm, I had to read to the end to see why it actually wasn’t.
Double sarcasm?

@mekkaokereke [applause]

Exactly this.

Be a whiner, we don't care. We know what it takes to win an election, we know Harris knows, and we're with her, no matter what pettiness may come from someone "in the campaign*".

*Assuming that the writer actually is in the campaign vs. some media hacks trotting out misogynoir stereotypes.

@mekkaokereke Fuck yeah, Mekka! I get what you just put down, and so do 1000s of others, as you said. You owe no one an explanation.

@mekkaokereke I know a woman who is working on the Harris campaign locally. She posted to Instagram about how Walz's comment in a speech, "You can sleep when you're dead" reminded her of her dad saying that.

She understands the assignment, and she's down for it!

(up for it?)

@mekkaokereke I think you are right. It has gotten even weirder recently in the attention-seeking competition of today where any story that can be imagined will be hyped and broadcast.

@mekkaokereke

I read the thread and I am happy to learn that Harris pushes for your next level of best, or the one after, that you did not know you have.
I needed to know that she and her campaign will not leave any crumb on the table to lament over the day after the election.

The US needs a black woman as President, and I believe Harris is the right black woman at the right time, in the right place.

There are a lot of us who sorta want to take that step and join in. It's time to join in.

@Edelruth I don’t care about her race or gender. She’s not evil like Trump. That’s what’s truly important here.
