Periodic reminder on Tesla safety:
If you can read this, I am stronger than you. There are ~150 people on earth stronger than me, and you are not one of them. I am not strong enough to break a Tesla window from the inside of the car. So you definitely are not.

If you are in a Tesla, and the car catches fire or falls in water, and you don't know how to manually open the door, you are going to burn to death or drown.

Do you know how to manually open a Tesla door?

@mekkaokereke Do any other cars have this unbreakable laminated glass? Would I (not strong at all) be able to break out of our Subaru with a glass-breaking tool?

@juneb

Yes, many have laminated glass. But not many combine the laminated glass with electric doors that often stop working in a crash.

If you are in a crash in your Subaru, the laminated glass can be safer than tempered glass. But then when everything stops, you can hopefully just pull the door handle and open the door normally.👍🏿

The Tesla equivalent to the Subaru's normal door handle, is the cable hidden behind the speaker grill.

Speaking of Subaru, I'd like to thank every Subaru driver for showing such incredible restraint!

In not constantly reminding everyone that both the passenger capacity and storage capacity of a Subaru are not that different than a Cybertruck, and that a Subaru beats a Cybertruck in off-road driving conditions.🙃🙂

/me waves as a subaru owner since '99

I remember I had my outback up in canada during a blizzard where we had over a meter of snow and wanted to do some doughnuts in a parking lot. after about 5mins of trying to get it to spin out and trying generally to be reckless i gave up cause the thing just stuck to the road 😭 it also had really good tires on it that the mechanic said "this thing i'll be able to climb a tree with these on it"

@pete_wright @juneb

For extra fun, look up videos of Cybertrucks in the snow. 🤡

Cybertruck failed in the real marketplace, but I suspect they're about to succeed in the fake marketplace. The people crowing about government waste are probably about to sell a whole bunch of these expensive fail wagons to the DOD, so that military personnel in combat zones can use a vehicle with less capability than an affordable hatchback bought by a be-flanneled Portland barista just trying to get from A to B.

@mekkaokereke @pete_wright @juneb The humble Toyota Tacoma with a 50 cal bolted to the bed beats any Cybertruck any day of the year, hands down.

@mekkaokereke @juneb I don’t know if you planned it but you got us Subaru owners out in force.

@paulc @juneb

I don't know why, but Subaru owners in the US are usually really good people?

Something about them attracts the kind of people that know where the best plums at the farmers market are, how to make a good frittata, and why it's important to protect trans kids, and why don't need to listen to nazis.

It's a literal rally car! A Tokyo drift mobile!

But people use them to deliver fresh eggs and help friends move into new apartments and stuff.

@mekkaokereke @juneb I bought my now 30-year-old Legacy back when it was six years old based on how well a similar model Legacy work vehicle I had been using behaved on gravel roads. Haven't regretted it at all - the only way it could be improved is to have been fitted with manual window winders as well as electric ones.

As for its carrying capacity... it's amazing what a furniture salesman can do if told that they'll sell a big dining table if they can get it into the back of a car...

@mekkaokereke @juneb NOT looking like the arse end of a 1970s Austin Princess is just a bonus...

@mekkaokereke @juneb I miss my wife’s 2009 WRX. Hauled stuff and hauled ass!

@scrummy @mekkaokereke @juneb a friend of mine said that owning a Subaru is great because there's a never-ending supply of spare parts from young idiots wrecking their WRXs. 😂 (I'm on my third consecutive Outback, for the record.)

@mekkaokereke Honestly if we're talking storage capacity by volume I'd put a Honda Fit up against a Cybertruck any day.

Also thinking about that time I accidentally pulled forward directly over a parking bumper and figured just powering (slowly) through would be less hazardous than trying to back up while turning. The car was a 90s Civic. Dull unsexy cars are often the best cars.

@juneb

@mekkaokereke Why didn't this deadly feature trigger a mandatory recall by the NTSB?
