Molly White

I just finally deployed something I've been working on for a few weeks now: a feed of my writing, posting, reading, and other various activity that lives on my website at mollywhite.net/feed!

I've admired the POSSE (indieweb.org/POSSE; "Publish [on your] Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere") model for a long time, but only finally found the time and energy to put something together that I'm actually happy with.

@molly0xfff This is awesome. Subscribed!

One thing, when I click on a Micro.blog title in the RSS feed it looks like it’s having issues.

@rianvdm oop, thanks, missed a slug :)

@molly0xfff This is great. I've been thinking a lot about the ownership of data recently!

@molly0xfff One question: How does it post to Twitter/Mastodon/Bluesky? It looks like it's splitting longer posts across Tweets, but does it use the public Twitter API?

@bobbydigitales yep, it splits posts based on the maximum character limits of each service, with some manual finagling if i so choose. it uses the public twitter API, yes

@molly0xfff Awesome work and very inspirational! I've been working on a distributed (not crypto) social network and I plan to make it integrate like this. I think the future might be exactly this but without needing people to be able to host their own website.

@molly0xfff thanks for introducing me to this. Very cool.

@molly0xfff Hooray. Doing essentially this has been on my TODO list for a long while. I'm going to take this as inspiration to work on that!

@molly0xfff this is dope. I've been thinking about something similar.

@molly0xfff Just so I am following, you write in whatever Citation Needed is utilizing ( or post to the microblog ), then have your mollywhite.net/feed/ endpoint reflect that then choose what gets pushed to other services from that /feed/ ( after some delay so the CN/blog gets the source crawl first before the other services do? ) Its a very cool idea ( POSSE ), and I think it sounds super interesting.

@cyanbane more or less! there's no real delay

@molly0xfff hello, the art drew me in. I never heard of that term POSSE, I’m interested. Clinking the link to your site, I get this. Maybe its just me but the text is ghosted and when I hit the menu the text is strange, like overexposed.

@molly0xfff not to diminish what you achieved, which looks great, but this is similar to WordPress' ActitvityPub plugin, isn't it?

@joanpla you could definitely do a microblog with federation with wordpress and the plugin, but the crossposting to other networks, integration with my blog/reading lists, and a few other features would require more than that

@molly0xfff wow, really cool. learned something new. I like the posse philosophy.
What software did you use to achieve it ? or did you build your own ?

@molly0xfff Cool! I know I'm being dense but is there an RSS format link or did I misunderstand?

@MattRose several! there's mollywhite.net/feed/feed.xml for the full feed, and a few others for sub-feeds

@molly0xfff brilliant! Thank you. (Subscribed, obs)

@molly0xfff

I think #POSSE is a good way to go for anyone who has the technical skill to do it, or the resources to hire someone else to do it for them 🙂

@molly0xfff

You should have titled it : "Tortellini in my Minestrone" 😎
