I'm ex-military, and there is NO WAY one would ever allow any non-essential person advance notice of an impending operation.

If the sarcasm isn't obvious: they're a bunch of idiots who definitely communicated and shared confidential information in violation of the law, but if they admit to that they'd have to be held accountable. Their way out is to claim that it wasn't confidential
