I was realizing in a conversation with my wife that, while she is good at planning many steps ahead, my biggest skill is to see the breadth of possible choices at the current step, including many choices that we are generally told are impossible

Although it's notable how I had a hard time exercising this ability for a long time because of trauma: When I was a child, adults reacted badly to anything that they did not understand or which seemed somehow threatening to their narrow idea of safety

@recursive We definitely treat adults less like children than they typically deserve, and children less like adults than they typically deserve.
