The Plus social network had that nice concept of "circles" to show the different facets of your life. You could subscribe to only some circles of someone, some circles were public, and other private. Much of my life centers around (in that case I write in English) but I also like video games and politics (and then it's more for my French friends), but I don't want to annoy all my followers with stuff that they are not interested in.

Why is it that , an open-source app designed with the interest of users first, does not have such a feature yet? No I haven't done my homework here, I have not researched the issue tracker or anything, but maybe some of you have strategies to cope with this problem. I mean I follow many Debian contributors to read about their Debian activities, but I'm not interested when they write in German or Italian about random non-Debian topics.

@magicfab I tried to follow but that's definitely not the same as following other Debian developers that are working on the project. What could be helpful is to be able to follow someone but filter their posts to only show those that have one or more tags that I'm interested in. But I don't think that such a feature exists.

@rhertzog There is also the Lists feature, although I don't think you can show only specific tags in a list. I don't use lists yet !

@rhertzog When you follow someone, you can specify languages you’re interested in seeing; that helps when people use different languages topically, as in the examples you give. Open the menu next to the Follow/Unfollow button, select “Change subscribed languages”, and you’ll see the languages used on that account and be able to choose a subset. Nothing like G+ circles, but still helpful. (I don’t think it filters boosts though.)

@skitt @rhertzog Oh, that one is a really neat feature ! I'm a new user myself and was wondering today if it was possible. Thank you a lot.

Also, I keep forgetting to send my messages as non-public when posting in a thread. Is there a way to automate this according to context ? (from what I understood, you have to either set it from all your subsequent posts, or one posting at a time).

@rhertzog there is a way to filter by language, which depends on people tagging language correctly (and many people I follow do not).

It's not really what you ask for, though, and what you ask for makes a lot of sense.

I can hashtag my posts, but I cannot sort them in different thematic feeds, which is a shame
