Ok a Thai friend took me to a Thai place in LA for Thai spicy, and let's just say it's 2x spicier than Thai spicy in SF (even at my fave places, ordered in Thai)... and as spicy as in Isaan, Thailand.
Big thumbs up!
For the curious, his picks for Thai food are:
- Lacha Somtum in Thai Town
- Kim Thai Food at the back of the swap meet in North Hollywood
And Sapp for boat noodles
Various Thai temples and night markets for snacks also. I will post a list.
I had Lacha Somtum and I was very happy. They had an entire page of papaya salads. Not just one, like in most Thai restaurants in the US.
In the same strip mall area there's a decent vegan Thai spot called Salaya for the vegans too.
@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io Damn they have the same name as the region of Nakhon Prathom I'm currently studying in (Salaya)
@AmyIsCoolz maybe they also came from there!
@AmyIsCoolz it's very trippy to walk around thai town and things are named after things i know in Thailand
@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io sounds fun! I'd like to go too one day, and see how many names I get.
