Definitely grew up in Singapore / Malaysia / Indonesia because I just added a giant scoop of sambal into my bagels
Also time to repeat myself: do not use rooster brand sambal oelek in Malaysian or Indonesian recipes calling for sambal, you will be very confused (that sambal is way too sour for 95% of our food). Look for ‘Runel’ brand if you can. Sambal terasi, sambal bawang, sambal hijau
@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io sambal on toast is my quick snack!
@geraineon I buy this Malaysian one (Tean’s gourmet) sambal ikan bilis
@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io Oh, I will get that! Thank you for the rec~! I have some Dolly sambal from the time I went to Ireland but will run out soonish...
@geraineon Tean’s is really good. Sometimes they sell the packet one as well that you can sautee in a wok or pot and it turns out almost as good as made by some auntie sambal
The jar one is also good but that’s better
@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io Will try to get the packet one!
(it's nice to not have to make own sambal XD)
@skinnylatte What's your opinion of the chili-garlic paste from rooster? I use that a lot more than sambal.
Got used to Indonesian sambal (badjak?) when I lived in NL, but now I'm partial to the chili-garlic.
I will search out those other sambals too.
@skinnylatte same with how I feel super Thai when I throw in fish sauce in my pasta sauce lol
