Hehe on a SF subreddit someone says hey where can I get steamed fish at a restaurant and some asshole says ‘what? That’s disgusting’, like they don’t live in a city with a huge Chinese population? Then I clicked on their profile and they live in Westwood park, so they’ve definitely never heard of steamed fish before lol
Also, rude.
People like that get VERY upset if you make fun of their food too.
When I meet people like this, and they insult my food, I like to say things like ‘oh SF sourdough is fucking disgusting!’ Or like ‘the ferry building farmers market is a tourist trap’ or ‘Mollie Stone’s is not very good’
They get REALLY mad! But they think they can say whatever they want about other people’s food
I don’t actually think those things (although I am really not fond of SF sourdough). But it’s fun to invert food / racial politics sometimes. You can tell people like that have never thought *their* food can be disgusting.
But they are the greatest perpetuators of the ‘other food is disgusting unless I personally say it isn’t so, and I can be praised for my cultural awareness’ dynamic that plagues so many California ‘foodies’

Also, (good) steamed fish is sooooo nice. And easy. That palateless ignoramus should just shut up.
