There’s a bakery in downtown Monterey I really love (Ad Astra) but every time I walk by and don’t go in, I send $30 to my savings account. (Two pastries and a coffee. Or a loaf of bread)
It’s adding up.
They use so much butter in their croissants and pain au suisse, which is why I love them so much. It’s well worth the money. I would rather spend money on them than on most SF bakeries (except Arsicault, which I always love)
The American Gen X fear of butter is one of my least favorite things.
MORE BUTTER
@skinnylatte and cultured butter!
@skinnylatte I'm a little bit allergic, so I would have the More Butter Blues at a place like that.
And more power to you for finding and sharing the good places! People should try things, and a café-bakery is an easy start.
@jmeowmeow their rye breads don’t have butter, I’m sure
@skinnylatte (takes notes) rye bread in Monterey...
I'm sure I'll make it back to the Aquarium one of these years. Maybe sooner!
@jmeowmeow lemme know!
@skinnylatte one of the best food switches I did during 2020 was moving back to real English butter rather than the various forms of margarine I was using.
Butter, toast, sea salt flakes. Nom.
@skinnylatte
Hey, “not all gen X…”
