Tempted to say "the begging for support will continue until I can sustainably do this work". I've already sunk all my savings into it over the past 6 months.
I'm looking at my bank balance right now unsure of how I'm gonna pay my monthly expenses (rent, food, bills, etc). And that's with a financial sponsor backing me for a certain project.
There'll be an October update posted soon, though I'm not sure how many of the different things I've been involved in that I can talk about this month, so I may have to do a mid-month update too, but a lot of work is in progress.
Currently feeling a bit financially insecure for November, as I haven't been able to reach a milestone in the sponsored work I have (due to various delays & a few days of illness)
Have also had a few days where getting back into writing the FIRES proposal (née FFS) has just been taking it's time, because writing & editing is hard.
Have also had to sometimes not work on writing because of other things occupying my brain & me needing to just sit & write some code for a change, just to "feel" productive (I struggle a bit at this time of year due to seasonal affective disorder, so doing things to "feel" productive is necessary to maintain mental health, even if that doesn't directly correlate to income).
@thisismissem Is this work something Mastodon Corp could provide grants for?
@getajobmike unfortunately they're unable to support my work at the moment, as they're squeezed for funding too.
(I actually applied and was almost hired as their third full-time developer on the Mastodon core codebase, but the job fell through due to funding)
(Also, aside, Mastodon isn't a corporate, but a gGmbH which is a non-profit organisation here in Germany)

@getajobmike that's already in progress, preparing several funding applications, but money won't reach bank accounts for several months at least, as they only pay out agter milestone completion & it takes at least a month or two for funding to be granted.

@serapath it's certainly something, but definitely not enough to make my work on the fediverse sustainable. (Both appreciative for it, but also needing the number to go up)

same problem, but i'm not even at 300.
burning through my savinga for the last 3-4 years.
it's tough, but i'm confident one day this will all work out one way or another, but until then it will continue to be tough.
For anyone who wants to encourage #Mastodon and the #Fediverse to evolve faster, to become more secure, and safer, there is no better way to do it than to give to @thisismissem's Ko-Fi and keep her free to continue to focus her work here!
