Anyone know of a fedi or at least free-ish alternative to SoundCloud? I like posting my stuff for archival and for whatever folks might enjoy listening to my brand of self indulgent improv, but I just have no desire to engage with that site anymore. What are the cool Indieweb kids using these days?
@while1malloc0 There's Funkwhale: https://funkwhale.audio that might be an option. Also Faircamp is how some folks are doing it. (Don't have a URL for that off the top of my head.)
@while1malloc0 I'm also looking for the same thing.
@while1malloc0 I've recently moved a lot of stuff over to audio.com - not federated and there are various criticisms of the owner (also own Audacity) but seems better than SC for now
@while1malloc0 same here. Let me know if you found something.
@while1malloc0 I’m curious -what’s the matter with SC?
@dan I still haven’t forgiven them for Prometheus
Seriously, there’s nothing wrong with them per se. I’ve just found it much easier to have genuine interactions in smaller online spaces, and music is purely personal and fun for me, so I’d like to share it in such a space if possible. SC has to focus on their business survival, and part of that focus is monetizing and attracting Serious Artists, neither of which I have interest in even though I’m sympathetic to their need to do so.
@dan I’m also a bit worried about news that they’re preparing for a sale. The sale of a barely break even platform with high costs in a space that historically isn’t strong on revenue sounds like a good recipe for that service becoming way worse very quickly.
@while1malloc0 I hear you. Appreciate the insight.
@while1malloc0 John, you can always try Anchor, powered by Spotify. Its a podcasting platform that allows you to upload and have unlimited uploads and you give out an RSS feed or people can listen via your page. www.anchor.fm
@while1malloc0
Not sure if this fits your needs, but you might have a look at https://mirlo.space
More like Bandcamp, not federated though (afaik).
