Martin Luther, early Lutheran, considers grace. Christ acted kindly to us, unworthy, by giving us mercy. Thus we should give kind service to unworthy neighbors.

Today, unworthiness is an excuse for everything from walling off these people, to using harsh language and mockery to convert them.

How can you A) consider your own unworthiness and B) exert kindness to unworthy people today?

Marcus Dods, Free Church of Scotland minister, urges Christians to do what they can to build up those with shattered lives. He says “it is only through us” that God works. Passing by on the other side (Luke 10) prevents God’s love.

Are modern preachers more apt to urge the shattered to pray for a breakthrough? Do we resist providing even “little kindnesses” lest we reward poor choices?

What kindness can you do today?

“So…I went out from my home to see you guys, and out of nowhere, I started smelling tear gas and it made me like…cry a lot. I felt suffocated. I started crying...I didn’t want this to be the first impression of meeting you. Unfortunately, this happens quite often.” #BrightStarsOfBethlehem #BeTheLight #Palestine #WestBank #CeasefireNow youtube.com/watch?v=z95b0dOLd1

Winter solstice.
The darkest day, a time to celebrate a brighter future.
I wish I could believe that things are going to get lighter.
It feels that darkness has invaded the world.
Yesterday we learned that college and university for women in Afghanistan has been stopped, active immediately.
We also had the high court decision that the UK can legally send refugees to Rwanda.
The darkest day!
But where is the promise of a brighter future?
Will the light return?
I wish I could celebrate.
But that's impossible unless safe passage is offered to those fleeing persecution and war.
I hear constantly the word "illegal".
Seeking asylum, seeking protection, is not illegal!
You cannot have an illegal asylum seeker!
Seeking asylum is a right! Not illegal!
Please bring the light, it's ok if it's slow, just be the light in the darkness.
