obrhoff<p>I was really confused when my emails from Fastmail landed in the SPAM Bin. Turned out I'm not alone. Hollie<p>So <a href="https://social.coop/tags/FastMail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FastMail</span></a> is great overall, but I'm having pretty serious problems with it sending too much to spam. </p><p>Receipts, email validations, shipping notifications, it's gotten much worse. Years ago, I rarely had to check spam, maybe once or twice a month and I'd catch a couple things. Now I have to check ALL the time. And when I tell it something doesn't belong, it doesn't learn. A day or two later I find that same sender back in spam again. I'm getting tired.</p>

I could have a separate user for my <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/selfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosted</span></a> services who don’t have access to my personal emails. Nice web interface and very nice mobile app. I think I want to migrate from <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Fastmail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fastmail</span></a> to have my emails in Europe. I mostly receive email and occasionally send some. I don't have any sort of complex organization structure. I don't send or receive encrypted email.</p><p>Is there some feature that I'm thinking about?</p>

I've been a satisfied customer for well over 20 years. They can import from Gmail, then you can sync locally at your leisure.</p><p>However, it's hosted in the US and they've been dismissive (so far) about concerns (which I share) about this. <a href="Https://emaildiscussions.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible"></span><span class="">Https://emaildiscussions.com</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> may be worth a look for informed opinion.</p>
Chris​‌​‬ Hayes‌​​​<p>After using Proton for 8 months, I made the move from <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Proton" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Proton</span></a> 🠆 <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Fastmail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fastmail</span></a>.</p><p>My thoughts:</p><p>👍 I love that Proton apps are open-source, this is a big win for me.</p><p>👎 Server-side Encryption - In theory this is a good idea, in practice this is a huge pain. On mobile, you're forced to use the Proton app, which is unbelievably slow. On desktop, you cannot verify senders with DKIM.<br>👎 Proton leadership supports what Trump is doing to the US, while not my reason for leaving, it gave me doubts about Proton.</p>
𝐩fᵣ<p>So I've left <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/fastmail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fastmail</span></a> and am now on <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/tuta" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tuta</span></a>. This was a long decision making process and I nearly went with <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/mailbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mailbox</span></a>.org and <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/posteo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>posteo</span></a>, but for me <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/tuta" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tuta</span></a> fits the bill. I don't need IMAP or SMTP. The tuta app works fine and so does the web interface. I chose tuta because it's does things differently and it's clear that privacy and security are the priority. </p><p>Fastmail was and is a perfectly good email provider, they just don't give me the same peace of mind, nor privacy features.</p>

Ben Ptacek<p>Thank you all for the feedback. <br>Given some of the complexities around <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Proton" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Proton</span></a> and the fact that the other receiver needs the same E2EE, I chose not to use Proton. <br>I am now working to update to my new email/domain with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Fastmail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fastmail</span></a> instead. I will use a separate end-to-end standard if I really need it.</p>

I like that they only do email and do it well. No ever-expanding product suite of tools I don't really need, nor any confusion on who the customer is. Nice and straight-forward :).</p>

For Office stuff, <a href="https://social.coop/tags/LibreOffice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibreOffice</span></a> is perfect for me. I don't lack any convenience working with these diverse tools.</p>

Brad Romance<p>Ok been moving slowly with this but I have a week off work so I have some time to mess with stuff.</p><p><a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> is working fine, I’ve disabled <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/iCloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iCloud</span></a> contacts and hidden most calendars on my devices (can’t disable it completely yet, due to shared calendars) and I’m only using the Nextcloud versions now.</p><p>Currently setting up Nextcloud’s Mail app so I can access my <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Fastmail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fastmail</span></a> email from there.
