I was working with a student on practicing for the GED. We started with math. The first question was a simple word question. That works fine. The second was nothing. There was no question before the answer choices. Just a few empty clickable elements. OCR gave me something, but being math, I didn't want to trust its output. Besides that, it didn't seem to OCR the whole question. I can fix that, but it's more steps for the student to remember. Windows 11, NVDA, Microsoft Edge. I also tried with Orca on Linux and Firefox. Will try with Google Chrome and JAWS when I get my work done that's on a deadline.
At some point, things have to get better than this, or we'll end up boiling the oceans just to use our computers.
Has any blind people studied for, and taken, the GED online?

Fedi friends: I've volunteered to tutor someone for the #GED and I'd love your recommendations on source material and study methods. The student is "mildly" #autistic, very smart, but easily frustrated when something doesn't immediately click.
I won't be the sole tutor; they're also using the GED+ service and have an advisor. I am meeting them weekly to review what they're stuck on and help with next steps, because I'm one of their trusted people and they don't know the advisor personally. 1/2

I have had #TheKahnAcademy app on my phone since I got my #GED 2yrs ago, I still do the lessons.
I predict that within 7 years, a #Florida high school #diploma will not be accepted for admission to the majority of colleges across the country. The kids will have to get an in state #education which will be suspect to many employers. Or also need a #GED
It will take decades for the state to come back from this. And any other that follows.

@mattdm The reasons people choose (or have chosen for them) the #GED path are so varied! For example long before DeSantis, Florida was basically shunting underperforming students into terrible private HS (maybe even worse than yours) to improve the school system's No Child Left Behind scores. Then there's the women (Boebert's* a good example) - or men, FTM - who get married or have a kid before graduation.

My wife's got a #GED & she's also got a BA, 2 Masters & a PhD, & is widely cited in her field, so to hell with the GED-shaming bullshit.
(Also one of my smarter ex-girlfriends never had any post-HS degree. People were usually shocked to learn that. She'd been an account manager at IBM & had a bunch of other very responsible white collar jobs.)
Proud #GED recipient and apparent #Republican Congresswoman #LaurenBoebert is big mad about #Disney! And to punish them, she wants to eliminate the long-established no-fly zones that protect the parks and visitors from potential aerial attacks. She thinks putting people at grave risk is a great way to show Disney who's boss! There are no words to adequately described how fu*cked up this is. These people are straight-up evil.
