Bill Minarik<p>Rocks breaking in tension, compression, and shear; an interesting teaching talk yesterday by Dr. Drew Lubiniecki. Below is a fascinating figure showing the loss of porosity in deformation bands (DB) in a sheared carbonate. The original porosity is shown in blue.</p><p>From Lubiniecki et al. (2019) J. Structural Geology 126:11–24</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/McGillUniversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>McGillUniversity</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/StructuralGeology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StructuralGeology</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/UniversityAdelaide" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UniversityAdelaide</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Carbonate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Carbonate</span></a></p>
Or M. Bialik<p>Just a gentle reminder that through geological time, shifts in <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/carbonate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>carbonate</span></a> producers mean that the geometry of carbonate platforms (as well as <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/reef" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reef</span></a> shape) changed. <br>Please try to keep that in mind when drawing your models. I'm trying to stay mad, but I'm actually just growing disappointed.</p>
Or M. Bialik<p>Somehow, with everything going on, I forgot to acknowledge that the term started (and now a few weeks in). As taxing as it is, it's nice to be back in the classroom.
