Ubuntu!Enable ESM in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS to Continue Getting UpdatesTime is nearly up on support for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, with standard software, bug fix and security updates coming to an end on May 29, 2025. Users on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS should consider upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (or newer) if possible, but if unable should enable Extended Support Maintenance (ESM) as soon as possible in order to continue receiving critical security patches. AptiviOld Nitrocid PPA EOL ReminderThe old Nitrocid PPA (<a href="https://launchpad.net/~eofla/+archive/ubuntu/kernel-sim" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><code>kernel-sim</code></a>) has been officially marked as deprecated as of the 0.1.2.0 release on February 27th, 2025. The reason was that because we wanted to get rid of a PPA that hosted very old versions of Nitrocid KS, such as 0.0.15.8 for Groovy Gorilla uploaded on April 14th, 2021, and because the most recent versions that were released had <code>libc6</code> issues on Jammy Jellyfish and older.We have only added the deprecation notice to the old PPA mentioned above, but we’ve recently updated the notice. We will permanently disable the <code>kernel-sim</code> PPA starting July 1st, 2025, as we get closer to the second half of the year.To disable the <code>kernel-sim</code> PPA and to enable the newer Nitrocid PPA, <a href="https://launchpad.net/~eofla/+archive/ubuntu/nitrocid" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><code>nitrocid</code></a>, follow these steps:<ol><li>Uninstalling all Nitrocid-related packages from the old PPA<ol><li>Open the terminal emulator</li><li>Run <code>sudo apt purge kernel-simulator</code></li></ol></li><li>Replacing the <code>kernel-sim</code> PPA with the <code>nitrocid</code> PPA<ol><li>Run <code>sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:eofla/kernel-sim</code></li><li>Run <code>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:eofla/nitrocid</code></li></ol></li><li>Installing the newer Nitrocid packages<ol><li>Execute <code>sudo apt update</code></li><li>Follow the instructions by running <code>sudo apt install nitrocid</code></li></ol></li></ol>Once you follow the above steps, you’re now using the new <code>nitrocid</code> PPA instead of the older one. The only requirement being that I have to have a terminal illness to qualify. Not loving that idea but we all gotta go sometime & I'd like to be able to pick & choose when that time will be.
