A New, Smarter Universal Remote - The remote for [Dillan Stock]’s TV broke, so he built a remote. Not just as a repl... - https://hackaday.com/2025/05/06/a-new-smarter-universal-remote/ #wirelesshacks #homeassistant #homehacks #smarthome #remote #esp32
That's unfortunate, but I'm okay with it because Apple forgot to release the specs.
With each new update Home Assistant is becoming a less useful solution. I appreciate all the hard work of developers. At the same time the frequent changes and corresponding need to tweak my system have become a detriment, not a benefit. #HomeAssistant #HomeAutomation #SoftwareUpdates
Glad that I own a museum of computer technology. So I had a keyboard with USB-A connector just one arm length away.
After a short but intense fight with nmcli it’s now connected to WiFi.
Nice to read in the outputs that they call it HassOS. That’s funny for the German speaking users because "Hass" literally means "hate".
Looking for a home-server solution. For now I am using old x86_64 PC, which is consuming avg ~20W running VMs. Though to be offgrid I need to decrease it, without cutting much features.
My idea is to use ARM SBC to host HAOS, with another ARM SBC with Wake on LAN, which will run desired containers when needed (now that VM is usually running in idle)
What do you think? Maybe some SBC recommendations?

Anyone know of a #homeAssistant compatible energy monitor plug/socket that isn't also a relay?
I want to monitor the power of something I never want to turn off...
(Edit to spell "home assistant" correctly)
It's quite straightforward to analyze TypeScript and JavaScript projects for the external apis they use. It's also a language that can "easily" sandbox execution contexts.
There are many ways to obfuscate things and occasionally libraries use valid but iffy patterns that make analysis hard, but most are scannable.
So why can't I see if this HomeAssistant HACS widget is relatively safe and doesn't do more than it should? I wonder if HA has some sort of sandboxing
I always prefer #HomeAssistant helpers to creating the equivalent in YAML as I like the way they guide you through creating them and that they give previews and associate with a device in many cases.
I just wish there was a way to go into YAML mode to be able to copy/paste/share easily.
Zaal, theater, techhub of bedrijfsruimte

#SwitchBot wants to attract #HomeAssistant users by supporting their platform directly. I tested the latest integration, and here are my thoughts:

Also kommt die VM vom HA dann dadrauf. Muss nur erstmal die Daten dahinkriegen. Kostet Zeit, aber ist machbar.
Aber es nervt. Ich hatte anderes vor heute.
Result of my comparison of the AM312 and HC-SR501 sensors.
The HC-SR501 triggers detection much faster, with a release time of 1.1 seconds compared to 2.5 for the AM312. This speed would be ideal for my needs…
However, the HC-SR501 has many false negatives, making it unsuitable. It looks like the HC-SR501 has an issue with the Wi-Fi. During my test, the sensor was 20 cm away from the ESP32.
I would recommend the AM312 instead.

This weekend I've mostly been working on my #HomeAssistant Install.
With the proposed deprecation of Core, I've decided to finally move from core to home assistant OS https://community.home-assistant.io/t/feedback-requested-deprecating-core-supervised-i386-armhf-armv7/
Honestly, it feel short of the advertised backup-restore-done.
My config dates back about 7-8 years
- MySQL databases, which was absolutely essential when I first installed, aren't really all that supported. I decided to dump the history, but needed to edit the config to get it to boot 1/?
