When we're sick, they make money from our attempts to survive. When we're well, they make money from our labor as our bodies and souls slowly break down. When we go to work they make money on the degree we need to get the work, they make money on the "work clothes" and the makeup and the hairdos that make us "presentable", the car required to drive there and the building we sit in, day after day, year after year. When we die, they make money off the funeral.

The rich have a way of making money, but never making the world any better.

Extreme #wealthinequality is *not* an inevitable outcome of capitalism. In "Wealth of Nations" Adam Smith argued that the rate of profit is, "always highest in the countries which are going fastest to ruin." In a fair economy competition will emerge to undercut the wealthiest individuals & corporations. The fact that US profits are so high is a sign that our economy is not fair or healthy.

Just 10 people spent a combined $540 million on tomorrow's #election. That's spending we know about without the benefit of the #DISCLOSE Act which would have targeted, among other things, contributions from foreign oligarchs. This is way too much influence for a handful of people to wield over our politicians.

Hi #fediverse! I'm a software engineer, and mostly that's what I blog and post about. But like many I've become anxious about politics. There are no magic solutions, but IMO a simple-in-concept/high-impact change to make things better long-term is reducing wealth inequality. So that's what I plan to post about at least for a while.
