I stumbled upon an interesting blog today while searching for an image of the Silicon Graphics 3D cube logo. Named "Abort Retry Fail" by Bradford Morgan White, the blog's articles document computer history. I eventually wound up reading three of them.

Windows is reinstating Recall,
Snapshots of screen saved every 3 seconds and fed to AI.
Previously introduced in May, 2024 to some backlash.

(...)"a gold mine for malicious insiders, criminals, or nation-state spies if they managed to gain even brief administrative access to a Windows device."
(...)"nothing stopping Recall from preserving sensitive disappearing content sent through privacy-protecting messengers such as Signal."
(...)"Windows 11 Build 26100.3902 preview version. Over time, the feature will be rolled out more broadly."
(...)"That would indiscriminately hoover up all kinds of User A's sensitive material, including photos, passwords, medical conditions, and encrypted videos and messages."
(...)"That level of detailed archival material will undoubtedly be subject to subpoena by lawyers and governments."

etc. etc.
Yeah...

FreeDOS 出 1.4 版

也是在 Lobsters 上看到的,FreeDOS 上一版 1.3 是 2022 年了,久久出一版:「We are excited to announce the release of FreeDOS 1.4」。 之前有跑起來懷念一下... 目前聽到的用途還是以老遊戲為主。在「理論」上是可以跑 TCP/IP 應用,不過實用性應該是不高? …

I just got a screaming deal on a Asus Eee PC (701 non-Surf model) so I'm heading back to 32-bit land!

Anyone have recommendations for a 32-bit lightweight Linux OS? These originally came with Xandros which is now defunct, and I'm looking at alternatives. Needs to be very lightweight, since I have a 630MHz CPU and 512MB of RAM to play with (and a 4GB SSD). I also only have a 800x480 display panel, so not much screen real estate.

My default for older computers (antiX) is still too heavy for this machine. I was looking at DSL, Void Linux, or Q4OS, but I haven't tried any of those options before. I'd love suggestions!
