This DS Lite thing is getting a bit out of control, although at this point I'm highly tempted to fire up my transparent iMac and find a Nintendo DS emulator for it, and complete this weird circle.
TIL about the "Atari video game burial"
I've been rummaging in the bit of my brain labelled "home computing nostalgia" and written up some memories of early 1980s computers and the software that came to you through your transistor radio.

Friend: "What are you doing on the weekend?"
Me: "Oh, this and that, you know, the usual. Working around the house, groceries shopping, testing 50 game cartridges..."

I enter this old computer shop, and spot a Tandy Model 102. I ask if it’s for sale, the guy literally chocked:
“what!?… <recovering>.. what, what would you even do with that…!?”
So many cool things, you couldn’t understand. But it wasn’t for sale.
When I was a kid, I didn't know what the “thump thump thump” sound coming from a #floppy #disk drive was.
It also made a buzzing sound, which I figured was the head moving back and forth, but the thump was a mystery.
I'm still not sure, but I'm guessing it's the stepper motor moving by a single track. Am I right?

one thing I managed to do today, I modded one of my 40 track 5 1/4 inch drives with a new index sensor around the motor spindle.
I added a small reflective IR sensor module to to the spindle and painted the side of it black, leaving out about 6mm of paint.
Now I can read flippy disks without having to punch mirrored index holes to the floppies itself.
We are back with the bad C64C... Testing the keyboard hints at U1 indeed being bad. No reactions on keypresses. So desoldering it is! Fresh solder and my ZD915 make quick work of this.

Trying to setup a classic Mac emulator on my 2012 MacBook Pro running Catalina… not so fun, brew spent several hours building and installing the dependencies for qemu before it failed because qemu needs at least clang-1500 now.
Sigh, I’ll try BasiliskII instead I guess?
If you missed the first batch (like I did), it seems like the #ZXSpectrum remake from RetroGames is back in stock at Amazon. So get yours now!
