Yuna<p>💡 Whole Company on a Raspberry Pi Cluster</p><p>Once, I had a team that took down a monolith.<br />Not with brute force, but with precision.</p><p>In months, we erased 90% of the code—no migrations, no breakages.<br />Stripped the bloat, cut dependencies, and ended up with something wild:</p><p>🚀 A Raspberry Pi cluster running the entire system.<br />Five tiny machines. Millions of requests.<br />Features built in ~90 minutes, not months.<br />No &quot;senior&quot; devs needed. No we needed. Pure engineering efficiency.</p><p>PROD needed bigger iron for scale, but the lesson stuck:<br />✅ Less code → Less complexity → Less maintenance.<br />✅ Running 10+ years - never turned into legacy.<br />✅ PMs even tweak features via ugly but effective XML (DX &gt; UX 😅).</p><p>This is real engineering.</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/DevOps" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DevOps</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/EngineeringExcellence" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EngineeringExcellence</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Minimalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Minimalism</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/developers" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>developers</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/developer" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>developer</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/FutureOfCoding" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FutureOfCoding</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Code" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Code</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/SoftwareEngineer" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SoftwareEngineer</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/productDevelopment" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>productDevelopment</span></a></p>
James M.<p>I'm looking for work as a Senior Software Engineer.&nbsp;Network programmer since 1990, with a Web focus. I've implemented many protocols and designed some too.&nbsp; Worked on early RFCs; wrote seminal tutorials on Web tech; wrote the first anti-censorship proxy, CGIProxy, in 1996.&nbsp;I have a ton of experience in many different business contexts, including running a small USG-funded NGO from 2011-2019.&nbsp;My main languages are Go, JavaScript (Node.JS/client-side), Perl, Python, and Rust, but I learn quickly and can pick up other tech as needed.&nbsp;Good at teaching. Record of solving hard problems creatively.&nbsp; Can manage if needed, but I'd rather be doing technical work.</p><p>Open to permanent or contract, full or part time. Need to work from home. Ideally I'd work in public interest technology (PIT), but can do corporate work too.&nbsp;Available immediately.</p><p>DM me here, email james@jmarshall.com, or Signal at jamesmarshall.02 .</p><p>Thank you for any leads! 😊</p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/FediHire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FediHire</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/FediHired" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FediHired</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/FediJob" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FediJob</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/FediJobs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FediJobs</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/GetFediHired" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GetFediHired</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SSE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SSE</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SoftwareEngineer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SoftwareEngineer</span></a></p>

Louis Ingenthron<p>Life as a <a href="https://ingenthron.social/tags/SoftwareEngineer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SoftwareEngineer</span></a>:</p><p>Today, I roped myself into creating my own in-memory database engine. Why? Because I am an idiot who can't grasp the concept of 'scope' for personal projects.</p>

mathias<p>Honest question for the folks out there with a career-level title in software engineering: how do you make goals or plan what to learn, aside from immediate demands from your employer?</p><p>I don’t believe everyone has to program outside of work as a hobby, nor should everyone constantly “show growth” — that’s unsustainable. And I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions or annual goals (that often end up too inflexible for reality), but it is that season and so I am thinking about it.</p><p>If you don’t already have immediate needs or projects to work on, what tells you to spend more time learning something? How do you decide what to use as far as programming languages, practices, patterns, tools, etc? I’ve got some of my own answers but I’m playing it close to the chest here just to learn more about how others decide these things.</p><p><a href="https://rhizospherelabs.com/tags/softwareengineer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>softwareengineer</span></a> <a href="https://rhizospherelabs.com/tags/programming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>programming</span></a> <a href="https://rhizospherelabs.com/tags/coding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>coding</span></a></p>
Aaron<p>TIL in <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/@Vivaldi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Vivaldi</span></a></span>, you can un-nest the dev tools on the right click context menu. Louis Ingenthron<p>I, a <a href="https://ingenthron.social/tags/SoftwareEngineer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SoftwareEngineer</span></a> for nearly 20 years, just spent 15 minutes trying to figure out why something wouldn't compile only to realize that I needed to capitalize the second 't' in "Tooltip".</p><p>Yeah, we shouldn't let LLMs write code for us, but there must be some kind of happy medium where they can help us avoid being this obtuse.</p>
