At a recent #transdayofvisibility event I heard this quote in response to someone being told they were "so brave":

" I don't want to be brave, I want to be safe"

This quote has haunted me. It reveals the power dynamic at play here, clearly calling out the aggressive oppressive agenda of one side, and the other side of the argument consisting of human beings wanting to live their own lives. Every "harm" being claimed by the righteous bigots is self-imposed.

Let people live. Respect life.

I just made the switch from Gmail to Proton. I've had Gmail since 1999 (when it was still in beta). But no more. I'll be gradually moving away from using Google services. A few years ago I did the same with Apple, forwarding emails from there to Gmail. Now it all forwards to Proton.

Proton is based in Switzerland and emails on Proton are end-to-end encrypted and everything, even your calendar and contacts, are stored encrypted. Meaning, if they get served a warrant, there's really nothing they can turn over.

This is especially important in a country that is increasingly criminalizing the very existence of myself and people like me. Get your data out of the US and stored securely. It has never been more important. If not for yourself, then for the people you know.

TIL: Dora Richter, a lacemaker, was a trans woman that wisely escaped Germany and fled to Czechoslovakia where she lived for many years making lace!

I missed it on #TransDayofVisibility because I don't go to Insta much, but Elena Kanagy-Loux has such amazing lace history knowledge. I am glad to know her story.

Trans Day of Visibility at the Museum of Liverpool - It was a joy to spend the weekend at the Museum of Liverpool documenting the TDOV (Trans Day of Visibility) events for National Museums Liverpool. Trans joy from floor to ceiling. Writing, artwork, poetry, music and interesting talks. The event was wonderfully put together by Spirit Level.

I am not trans myself, so I try my best to stay in my lane...but I absolutely support #TransDayOfVisibility as a Leftist who believes in unconditional full egalitarianism and humanity and respect for everyone.

One thing I was planning on writing for #TransDayOfVisibility is that a few weeks ago I tried hinting to a trusted friend that my pronouns weren't what she expects. It didn't go as planned. Somehow I think she came out of that conversation even more sure I'm cis, but a good trans ally. I know I'm not the first, and I'm not sure about the second.
