Folks of Fedi with multiple, potentially topic specific accounts: I'm considering starting an alt account for anything to do with photography. Have you found a way of getting a combined timeline view of your multiple accounts, or do you keep them separate? Is there any etiquette on boosting a post from an alt account (assuming you aren't just boosting every post)? PixelFed??

Also looking for recommendations for photography related instances with a good local timeline

@DanHatesNumbers I found having a seperate focused pixelfed account was too tedious to manage!

@DanHatesNumbers I've been rockin' the multiple-account thing for a while now, with moderate success. I would LOVE to know if you find a solution to combining timelines, because that's something I've wanted too.

As a Drupal developer, I've been wanting to play with building my own combined ActivityPub server and client site. But also as a Drupal developer I have too many other projects more important to work on.

For now, I just find myself doing a lot of scrolling past stuff I've already seen across each feed. Mastodon is already bad about aggregation, and having multiple accounts only makes it worse!

@DanHatesNumbers As for PixelFed, I gave it a try and have basically abandoned it. The web UI is clulnky, especially for things like alt text, and the developers seem more focused on chasing the next shiny thing (building a Fediverse TikTok) instead of making PixelFed better.

Perhaps PixelFed is more enjoyable via the app, but I spend most of my time on a laptop (ESPECIALLY when posting content), so that doesn't help me. I never got into Instagram either, for similar reasons.
