Today FORTH may seem like an obscure programming language, but almost every computer magazine I have from 1983/5 has articles and adverts for #FORTH products. So I would class it the most mainstream niche language.
@GrantMeStrength just wanted to let you know I love these historic personal computing toots, thanks.
@8bitTim@mastodonapp.uk @GrantMeStrength@hachyderm.io I had Starting FORTH (and Thinking FORTH) but that was a long time ago and most things I had have been lost along the way
@GrantMeStrength@hachyderm.io I remember this cover influenced me hugely – it’s not good artwork but the issue was all about FORTH and from then onwards I knew the whole future would be propelled by FORTH so that was the only language I ever needed to know
it was useful a decade or so later in PostScript when I was encouraging imagesetters to work, in my early magazine publishing career
@GrantMeStrength oh, damn…I must have missed the FIRST, SECOND and THIRD things toots! ::boomtish::
