Now that LA is on fire, my plans for my parents’ itinerary on the west coast has fallen flat.

Can someone give me ideas on a 2-3 city thing that does not involve renting a car? They don’t want to drive on ‘the wrong side’ and I.. don’t want to drive.

Happy to consider one Amtrak trip in a roomette, and one or two flights.

Assume San Francisco is the start and end, but there’s Monterey of course, which also means we can fly out of San Jose.

@skinnylatte Sonoma region, where it’ll be cool but plants are starting to bud out. Vineyards aren’t crowded/busy, so one can visit them at a slow pace.

Screw the few square miles ablaze: SoCal.

Or for slight so-cal empathy: San Diego or Joshua Tree or similar, beyond LA.

@Littlebobbytables @skinnylatte well I guess so kind of... There’s a $40 shuttle from OAK or SFO, light rail (SMART) from Point Reyes to Santa Rosa, ‘arterial’ buses…

There are intercity buses to hop between downtowns (Petaluma, Santa Rosa, healdsburg, Windsor, Sebastopol, Sonoma). Some Lyfts could help.

That said, cars allow options and I did just outline a 70 mile sprawl.
