Meta is coming. I recommend blocking their domain, threads.net.

Use a text editor. Type "threads.net" (no quotes) and save the file as "blocked_domains.csv" (no quotes.)

Go to your Mastodon settings > import > blocked domains and upload the file.

Bingo!

To the people wandering in here all like "Why do you want to block Threads?" It's because any interaction with a threads.net account exposes our accounts to Meta's notorious privacy violations.

@crowgirl thanks Kim. Thankfully our admin is blocking all Meta as standard to start with.

@Rob_l

Oh, that's great! Good for mas.to to be on top of privacy.

@crowgirl I think it's more than that - this is a much friendlier place to be due not in small part to the diversity here, & a huge influx of users in one go risks diluting the community spirit.

@crowgirl I suppose I am in the minority but I'd like to see what that content is like before blocking. I hope #mstdnca doesn't pre-emptively block.

@crowgirl I have a stupid question: why does everyone block it?

@menelion

To protect our privacy from Meta (Facebook).

@crowgirl struggled to read article because I laughed so hard that I spluttered my drink everywhere

Can confirm, ZuckerThreads isn't appearing when I search in the iOS App Store from 🇫🇷

@crowgirl oh well, it was fun while it lasted, but it's appearing in App Store when browsing from a French mobile network now 😞

@marek

That's not the real Threads app. Look carefully at your own screenshot.

@crowgirl top one isn't but I think the bottom one is…?

@marek

Maybe. You may be able to install it, but it doesn't mean the service will work.

@crowgirl in…stall…threads…?! even just to see if it's real and works? ewww! :)

anecdotally I hear it is accessible without a VPN from Europe (why would Meta do any blocking at their end when there's tasty personally identifiable data just "volunteering itself" to their servers), and unless someone's managed to fool Apple's App Store approval process, it does list Instagram Inc as the developer

@bit_ou @crowgirl @bkastl @ccc @informatik @bfdi @EDPS Den Laden los zu werden ist sinnvoll, aber die kommen ja über viele Methoden an unsere Daten ran, schwierig daher... leider. :/

@HonkHase @crowgirl @bkastl @ccc @informatik @bfdi @EDPS danke, also Blockempfehlung um wenigstens ein Tor zu schließen? ?

@crowgirl
if my server is mas.to do I have to block individually? what is fedipact compared to suspend?
