Protip: if you have publications you've authored or been involved in published through US federal gov entities, NGOs, or even private for-profit businesses that are at risk of being deleted to please the fuhrer, make sure to get the Wayback Machine and one or more other archive sites to grab snapshots ASAP.

Even if you already have copies yourself.

Doing so provides multiple third-party attestation to the existence of these documents and their contents that may be valuable to you in the future.

@dalias please do more than just IA they have a 0% of resisting takedown threats or even notifying when an entry is removed and they (specifically user textfiles) will block you if you ask them about it

@dalias we are doing robust dataset archiving at @SafeguardingResearch; unsure if/how publications (with sorely necessary analysis) could play into that

@hipsterelectron @dalias @SafeguardingResearch would something like IPFS be of use? distributing mirrors in a discoverable way, with content addressed, and mirrors distributed across multiple jurisdictions might be beneficial

@fogti @hipsterelectron @SafeguardingResearch The problem is not mirroring storage but attestation. What you really need is nothing but a notary signature "this hash was seen on this date" combined with an impartial archiving organization signing "this is the snapshot we took of site X on date Y".

@dalias @SafeguardingResearch @hipsterelectron @fogti Of course preventing falsification of that becomes its own mess.

@lispi314 @fogti @hipsterelectron @SafeguardingResearch The notary part is cryptographically tamperproof, and also guards against future compromise of the signing key that was used or future bad behavior by the attesting party.
