Trump unenthusiastic about changes to daylight savings time right now
Asked about ending daylight savings time (or making it permanent) Trump acknowledged the differences in opinion on which way to go, and suggests this isn't on the top of his list for now. I endorse this position.
@lauren As much as I look forward to it ending, I don't want him taking credit for it, and I don't want the zoneinfo DB to balloon in size and for thousands of new software bugs to appear (not expecting multiple transitions in a year) because the definition keeps getting changed back and forth by court battles over his lack of authority to do it.
@dalias Yeah, the thought of all the old firmware that would be screwed up by this makes me very unenthusiastic about changes at this point.
@lauren Old sw/fw is fine with changes to the DST rule. They happen fairly often. But it may not be fine with complex corner cases like changing back and forth multiple times in succession in the same year.
@dalias I've got lots of stuff where the dates can't be changed. In fact, I'm looking at a camera feed right now that thinks it's already DST, it does this a week in advance every year, and the opposite at the end of DST.
