#guitar calluses have reached the point they are starting to affect my typing
not sure if I consider that progress or a problem
@davidr Interesting - I’ve never had my typing affected by that. What kind of keyboard are you using?
@rogersherman The #keyboard I was on when I wrote that was a #HappyHacker, but I don't think that's the issue.
I wrote that when it was still pretty dark out and I generally don't turn the lights on if I'm by myself. So I have to feel for the keyboard a little more than normal. Especially on that particular one, because I thought I was being cool by getting black letters on black keys...
@davidr Gotcha. I have blank keycaps (I use a custom layout that I've updated a few times), so as long as I can feel the little nib that indicates first finger home row, I'm good.
@rogersherman Right, exactly
@davidr Ah, so you're saying the callous is so thick you can't feel that?
I seem to have a pattern with my callouses when I have an interruption in my playing - they fade away (of course), then I ramp my playing back up, and they thicken up...but as my fingers get used to playing again, my touch lightens up, and the callouses thin out to the level they generally stay at.
@rogersherman "Can't feel" is too strong. "Beginning to affect" is what I said and I stand by that.
My first go at guitar 3y ago gradually built up callus with some peeling, etc over a month or two.
This time my fingertips when from soft to pretty hard directly in a couple weeks. It's a little freaky.
