I’d love it if AI made my life easier, but so far
1. Package managers that are straight up misrepresenting my work
2. Chat bots advising people how to use my software incorrectly
3. PRs that just don’t quite feel right
I’ve personally found it useful for small menial tasks, but overall all it’s done is cost me time and energy
@ellie to me, it's gathering way too much attention where actual work is needed.
@ellie yea, they should rename all these things which are called AI nowadays over to text-generators because that's what they are.
lot of people just use them as search engine, which is ridiculous and actually dangerous
@ellie hype hype hype
@ellie I integrated GPT-3.5 into my intranet site that used it to rephrase some email templates. I would have lost my job if I didn't check each email thoroughly.
@ellie Think this was always going to be the issue - "AI can code!" And the remaining 90% of what developers do?
@ellie Same!
Why use a virtual assistant that takes human-made patches, does the boring task of followup and rebasing, and replaces it with bad code generation? I am using an English spellchecker! Best AI thingy ever. And it bothers nobody.
