Every so often I get a follow request on Mastodon and I have no idea why. It doesn't seem to tell me why I need to approve the person that is attempting to follow me. Like, are they a creep, have they been blocked a lot, what's the deal.

@hbuchel probably your instance has limited their instance. But yeah, super unhelpful UI flow for that

@hbuchel i also experience this and seem to recall it's when your server has limits on federation with another server but hasn't explicitly muted/blocked it? not 100% sure though
