I feel like anger is a great motivator, but a terrible sustainer — like anger gets things started, but doesn't necessarily last or have a positive feedback loop, it just dissipates & fades.

And being continuously angry doesn't seem healthy to me.

Like, anger requires a continuous stream of new anger to continue fuelling things. It isn't typically self-sustaining on its own.

Also, anger tends to be isolating, in that it encourages burning of bridges and divisions, rather than collaborative — anger can lead to collaboration, but often can't sustain it alone.

@thisismissem This reminds me how in union organizing we talk about structured organizing conversations. There are a few different formats, but one I like that's easy to remember is AEIOU:

Agitate
Educate
Inoculate
Organize
Unionize

It isn't enough to live in agitation. You _have_ to find ways to direct it and use it to build something else—e.g., class consciousness—or else a) you just have anger and nothing to do with it b) it is _ineffectual_ and _stagnant_ anger, which is toxic.

@hrefna @trochee @thisismissem There are also a lot of people who conflate the first three things with organizing, which is why (IMO) folks say things like “Twitter was good for organizing” or “TikTok is good for organizing.” They’re not good for organizing but for the stuff leading up to it.

@hrefna @thisismissem what does inoculate mean? Where can I read more?
