Special shout-out to the design genius who decided that “clean face free of any controls or display” is an important feature for dishwashers, making it so that I have to open (and thus stop) the running dishwasher to see how much time is left.

Textbook Lawful Evil, well done, I hate it.

@inthehands
Your dishwasher shows how much time is left???! 😮😮😮

@alter_kaker
Yes, they worked very hard to build this difficult feature in a place you can’t see it!

@alter_kaker @inthehands
This! I would love to have a countdown timer for the cycle. OTOH, ours does have the buttons & stage-of-cycle lights on the outside face, not the top edge.

@inthehands mine gets around this is an actually clever way - it has a small projector that projects a display on the floor under the dishwasher (but visible) that shows if it is running and if so how long remains or if it has recently finished.

@Rycaut @inthehands The time display of my dishwasher is also hidden and can be seen only by opening it - but the washing just continues when you close it again. The 'ready' display again is a red light spot projected on the floor turning to green.

@Rycaut @inthehands In-laws have a dishwasher like this. Unfortunately the LCD display in the little projector has burned/faded somehow so now all you can see is a spot of light on the floor. If you look at it really close you can see the lines of the lcd pixels but they are all white.

@inthehands Ours has a ’solution’.

You can connect it to wifi and I think then control it with a mobile app. I assume it would show the time left in the app.

Our appliances never get to be on the internet, though, so I can’t be sure. At least it works without wifi.

@inthehands Next stage: the machine's door only unlocks through the app, so good luck extracting your toddler who took your phone and crawled inside while playing hide-and-seek.😬😬

@inthehands the only good thing about our dishwasher dying last year is we got to replace the one with the hidden controls.

@inthehands My previous "leak free" dishwasher that I had to replace after it, predictably leaked and did 10K of damage to the floors in my kitchen had that kind of inscrutablle design. Glad to put it in my rear view.

@inthehands @brouhaha any “Just install the app!” replyguys?

@inthehands And, DOWN WITH TOUCH SENSITIVE CONTROLS! We discovered that real physical buttons were a no-cost option!
