My parents are asking if iOS devices work “thanks to what I did”. More like they work despite what I did tbh
@fay59 @Catfish_Man
When they hear that I’m a software developer, non-techie folks generally don’t quite know what to picture, and imagine me doing something like IT support.
The best and quickest way I’ve found of explaining it is, “No, no, I don’t fix people’s computers. I’m one of the people who •makes• all the computer problems in the first place.”
@Catfish_Man @fay59 @inthehands I feel your pain. #problemCauser
@inthehands @fay59 @Catfish_Man Well, not literally all. There’s some real boneheaded hardware out there too.
@cxj @fay59 @Catfish_Man
I like to think of all the hardware and software folks as being one big happy problem-creating team
@inthehands @fay59 @Catfish_Man "so what do you do for a living?" "I lose arguments against idiots"
@bakuninboys @inthehands @fay59 one of the business card titles I came up with for myself was “Bricklayer of Babel”, as in “painstakingly building towards catastrophe”
I also considered the classic from The Hobbit, “Chiefest and Greatest of Calamities”, but decided I merely aspire to that level of chaos
@Catfish_Man @inthehands @fay59 I like both of those.
@Catfish_Man @inthehands @fay59 I feel like there's a monkey paw joke in there as well.
@bakuninboys @fay59 @Catfish_Man
“Which idiots?” “Myself, mostly”
@inthehands @fay59 @Catfish_Man "I pave the road to hell"
