As the Trump administration tries to pin the blame for everything on this guy Waltz, can we just not lose sight of the fact that one of the people on that Signal chat — one of the people who completely failed to say “this shouldn’t be on Signal“ or “oops you CCed a reporter” — was Tulsi Gabbard, the ••director of national intelligence••

Paul Cantrell

An OPSEC faceplant for the US Secretary of Chicken Feathers And Hub Nuts or whatever would be bad enough. But an OPSEC faceplant from the

?!??

She should lose her job.

She should lose her job. Any leader who fails to fire her should lose their job. Any member of Congress who fails to pound a drum about those people losing their jobs should also lose their job.

I let my senators know something along those lines in a phone call today, and I encourage you to do the same. This is a scandal that the establishment can actually understand as a scandal. Our pressure matters.

A lot of Democratic career politicians have been caught like deer in the headlights, completely unequipped by their past experience to do anything resembling fighting right now. It’s frustrating as hell, and I hope a lot of of them get primaried, but in the meantime I think this is one thing where they •do• actually have the tools and experience necessary to fight — if we light a fire under them.

@inthehands They should all be fired and arrested. And Congress should be investigating who else is using Signal (hint: all of them). But unfortunately we don't live in that universe.

@inthehands genuine question and not trying to be a troll: what exactly do we want to come out of this? I don’t want her replaced with someone more competent but whose policies I consider just as evil. If anything their incompetence is their best feature if what they’re doing is terrible, not just in this sphere but in everything

@virtualinanity @inthehands At this point it's not so much about outcomes as about being seen to fight. Fighting spirit is contagious. And the more people internalize how truly awful this is the better. And getting resignations would mean new Senate advice and consent sessions before the same cowards that got this lot into office and are too afraid to face their voters - but now after the fact. Exposure, exposure, exposure.

@inthehands @virtualinanity It’s a good question. The immediate resignation of Gabbard, Waltz, and Hegseth would be a win for Trump. This scandal is an opportunity to bring down Trump and his team together.

The immediate objective is to force so much media and public attention on the issue that GOP Congress must investigate in good faith.

We hope an investigation will bring down Trump, Vance, and Rubio along with the others.

@dekk @inthehands I guess I see zero chance of gop acting in good faith

@virtualinanity @inthehands Whoever Trump appoints will be incompetent, no competent person would take the job. In this case I think the replacement would be less evil than Gabbard.

@inthehands You've inspired me. I just called both of mine.

@inthehands Also y'know the admitting to war crimes thing?
