Does anybody have a crowd size estimate for the Minnesota state capitol protest yet?

The traffic getting there was bonkers: we tried to ride the rail, but train after train kept going by full already. Crowd seemed in the same general universe as the Women’s March in 2017, but it was very hard to compare because we couldn’t really see how far it extended from where we were…. I’d love to hear a count!

Paul Cantrell

All I can find so far is “well in excess of 10,000 people,” which was clearly true.

@inthehands I made it there late after giving up on the trains. Parked a 40 min walk away on Summit Ave. No idea how many, but def a large turnout!

@inthehands the Strib quoted State Patrol who said 6000 🫠

@jumbanho
Feh, a useless source communicated in a useless channel

@inthehands the State Patrol released the number 25,000, but being there and comparing it to the other protests over the years it looked more like 30,000 to me. I met many great people, a good event

@inthehands @carstenfranke Vic Thorstenson found an old Star Tribune article that estimates the U-shaped area between the capitol and MLK Jr Blvd (back then Constitution Ave) has a capacity of about 50,000, though it's always hard to know how densely packed that needs to be. I'd like to compare it with seating areas in some stadiums. It was very packed today (at least from the cathedral/John Ireland Blvd angle)

Bluesky Social · Vic Thorstenson (@vthorstenson.bsky.social)In 1987 Gary Grefenberg threw cold water on the notion that there were 100,000 people on the mall, but I think the CAAPB's estimate included concerns about the weight of people on what would have been the roof of offices that were being proposed in the mall area at one time.

@mulad @inthehands from my area close to the front that whole area looked densely packed, could have fit a few more people.
