Hail Mary here, but I'm looking for folks who've attended, or know people who have attended, American University of Paris (AUP). It's on my kiddo's short list for schools.

Please boost, I guess? 🙂 And thanks!

@jackbrewster took me a while to realize you weren’t telling everyone that your name is Hail Mary. Anywho, wish you the best of luck, Hail Mary Stranger of the Internet.

@jackbrewster Hm, not sure how good an option AUP is depending on the field $kiddo wants to go for; Is $kiddo looking at .EU universities in general? Bachelor or Master?

When speaking FR, it might be a good option; Otherwise DE is there (if you find a BA that is in english). NL can be viable as well (many EN BA programs); But study-fees are prohibitively expensive (~22k€/year) for non-EU students iirc. In Germany that is more than enough for fees+flat+food+party for 2-3 semesters at least.

@jackbrewster Uni wise there is also a lot less diff between different universities in EU than in the US, esp. for BA/MA. PhD is somewhat different, but also boils down to "look at the group, not the university".

@tfiebig Undergrad, though he's completing his Associates right now while in high school.

He's studied French, and we've visited Paris a couple of times and he really likes the city. We didn't really look at anything outside of France.

22k€ would actually be cheaper than AUP!

@jackbrewster Ho-ly-shit, aup must be expensive...what is the field? Sth. sth literature?

@jackbrewster I did, for my freshman year. But it was 3+ decades ago, so I'm not sure my opinion would be too up to date? I was there when it was a mix of military brats whose parents were stationed in Europe (that was me) and rich kids, so the culture there will probably be very different today. Academically speaking I wasn't impressed. I transferred to San Francisco State after one year, and would have transferred after one semester if my parents would have allowed it.

@jackbrewster here in Europe it’s not got a good reputation. It is rated poor for it’s Business School, where it is ranked 1120 of 1,390 schools in Europe and 115th out of 134th in France. It has low admission standards, so one of the easiest universities to get accepted. Just let’s say attending there would not secure you a job interview in Europe. Students are predominantly females from wealthy families who want to pick up an easy degree whilst living & shopping in Paris.

@Lassielmr Thank you for this info. Do you have a link for the ranking info? I’d like to share this with my family.

@jackbrewster I have a friend who went there, could try to get in touch, did you have questions I should pass on?

@secretsloth Oh that would be lovely. I’ve heard from a couple of folks who didn’t have positive things to say. 😬

My kiddo is looking at a business, or biz-adjacent degree. I’m mainly interested in how they feel about their learning experience, and how they feel their degree has been valued by employers.

Long term, my son is interested in living abroad after school. I would hate for him to have limited opportunities or other issues if he attends the school.

Thank you so much!

@jackbrewster okay, I'll see if I can find out for you. Best of luck to your kiddo wherever they decide to go. I'll reply here if/when I hear back.
